Welcome

Greetings, Nextworking friends! We hope this finds you getting a taste of the footloose and fancy-free spirit that defines the summer months. With the first big sunburn of the season under our belts, we’re ready to embrace time outdoors by hitting the links (or for some, the mini-links), enjoying rooftop happy hours, and spending time at the lake.
Ahhh...

Before those time-honored traditions, however, we invite you to take a moment and dive right into this issue of The Spot. You’ll get to meet Angie Complin of our Steering Committee, read up on ways to explore career opportunities in a more relaxed or passive approach, mark your calendar for our next event (Target Field, anyone?), and gain access to the hottest jobs in the Cities.

Guaranteed to offer more insightful content than your Facebook news feed (no offense), this issue will fill you in on all things Nextworking and then some; satisfying your thirst for staying in the loop almost as well as that gold-rimmed glass of Stella. Enjoy!

Ice cold drinks, spectacular sights of Target Field, mouth-watering appetizers, networking opportunities with local industry leaders – what’s not to love?! Mark your calendar today for our upcoming, first-of-its-kind Nextworking event!

When: Thursday, September 15

Spotlight

If you’ve not been fortunate enough to meet Angie Complin at one of our events, we encourage you to introduce yourself next time... that is if she doesn’t beat you to it! Angie’s warm demeanor, infectious optimism, and love for life’s thrills will make you feel like instant friends. Her likeable nature and passion for connecting with others make her a perfect fit on the Nextworking Steering Committee. (We swear, the girl’s energy has to be a result of a Caribou addiction, but it’s not. She’s just that enthusiastic… and we love it!)

Keep reading to discover more about Angie’s impressive professional background (she has several letters following her name), her current role as Controller for Vendor Support and Gross Profit at Best Buy, and how personal and professional goals keep Angie striving for what’s next.

Certes Financial Pros was recently named a 2011 Top Workplace by the Star Tribune. Local companies were measured on a variety of factors including company leadership, communication, career opportunities, working environment, and pay and benefits. What does this mean for you? When you’re looking for a staffing firm to represent you to prospective employers, partner with an award-winning company who will put their best foot forward on your behalf. Our candidate and client relationships are our top priorities and we will treat you with the respect and responsiveness you deserve.

On the Spot

In theory, every single one of us ought to fall into one of these two categories: active job seeker or passive job seeker. Put simply, an active job seeker is one who is currently seeking a new employment opportunity, while a passive job seeker is not. The fact is, most if not all of us are interested in at least keeping a pulse on job opportunities so as not to let them pass us by. Ultimately, if a job is appealing enough it may just be our next step, even if we weren’t looking.

This begs the question…

Is it possible to actively manage your career as a passive job seeker?

What They've Learned

“I have found over the years, whether in business, home, friendships – whatever, that you only get out of something what you are willing to put into it. Networks are weak unless you work them; marriages wither unless well cared for; homes, yards, gardens – they all deteriorate without constant attention. Careers are the same. Be thoughtful, work hard, and your career will flourish right along with your tomatoes. But we also have limited time to devote to our various pursuits, so choose wisely that which you will tend.”
