Happy New Year, Nextworking friends! We hope this year is a memorable one for you filled with adventures and fun. We look forward to offering those things to you through Nextworking this year as well. We’re excited about all that 2012 has to offer and hope you’ll come along as we welcome our 7th year with open arms!
Take a much-deserved break from chipping away at your resolutions (if one of them is to read more, well, today’s your lucky day!) and dive into this month’s issue of The Spot. You’ll discover more information on our {amazingly popular} wine tasting event this month; the opportunity to get to know Steering Committee Member, Cayla Schluter; a gem of a restaurant re-born in the heart of Lyn-Lake; lessons from successful networkers; and so much more!
Cheers!

Cayla Schluter believes life is more fun when you give everything a try at least once, and she’s got the hobbies, experiences, and professional successes to prove it! We believe Nextworking is more fun because of people like her.
As a Senior Associate in the Private Company Services Tax Division at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cayla is responsible for reviewing tax returns, planning, and consulting engagements for privately held multi-national consolidated corporations. She humbly admits she’s “learning a ton” and gaining more and more responsibility after starting at the firm in August (she was previously at Eide Bailly). Read on to discover more about Cayla’s educational and professional background, as well as her favorite free-time activities (between soccer, horseback riding, DIY home improvements, and live music, there’s always something fun on tap!)

“One of the biggest career mistakes I’ve seen young professionals make is not proactively considering or developing their next career steps. Highly successful professionals understand the importance of continued learning and skill building, actively developing strong professional networks (both within and outside of their current company), understanding the current job market and how they fit in, and considering other career opportunities when presented - even those that offer a different direction or industry.
I don’t know how many times I’ve heard comments from accounting and finance professionals like ‘I really should have interviewed for that position’ or ‘Lucky so-and-so found a great role with…’ Generally, great opportunities don’t just happen while you’re sitting in a cubical crunching numbers. Great opportunities happen to professionals who proactively take charge of their careers, finely hone their skills, and make themselves available instead of watching from the sidelines.”

Ravaged by a fire in February 2010, this beloved South-Minneapolis restaurant has made a new home for itself in the Lyn-Lake neighborhood near Uptown and continues to be a jewel on the Minneapolis food scene. Known for offering four-star dining on two-star prices (friendly on the belly and the pocketbook!), this lovely new location won’t be a secret for long, so chop-chop and check it out!
