. . . . .
When we think of Nextworking steering committee member Jason Winter, a couple of words come to mind: genuine, positive, and persistent. A Mound Westonka graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas, Jason got his public accounting start at PricewaterhouseCoopers before moving into internal audit at Green Tree Servicing. Jason now works in external financial reporting for Target Corporation.
From showing great pride in the family he is creating with his wife Amanda (whom he married in September 2009) and their Havanese puppy named Sherwin, to discussing his bumpy road to passing the CPA exam, it’s all good in Jason’s book. His favorite quote really sums up his approach to life, one we can all keep in mind as we continue to grow in our careers. “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift and that’s why we call it the present.”

“I’ve learned that there are a lot of people ready to help you along the way. Have the confidence to reach out and tell people what you want in your career. It’s okay to ask for and accept help. It’s not a show of weakness but a show of strength.”

Best Kept Secret

Ethics in today’s business world?! “Yeah right,” you say. Au contraire, Nextworking friends. We’re here to say ethical business behavior is alive and well in the Twin Cities! From a pool of outstanding finalists, Certes was recently named a 2010 Minnesota Business Ethics Award winner for our high standards of ethics in the workplace and beyond.
You’ve been to our events; you know we’re a fun and friendly group here at Certes. That’s because we live by the Certes Golden Rule: “Treat others as you would like to be treated… works in business too!” It’s the way we’ve done business since the day we opened our doors in 1994 and the 2010 Minnesota Business Ethics Award validates our ongoing commitment to doing the right thing.
“We recognize that our strong ethical standards have equipped us to hire the best talent and provide the best quality of finance and accounting work to Minnesota companies and firms,” said Sally Mainquist, President and CEO of Certes.

It’s June and we love it! Time to start bringing back some of those locales we like so much but tend to neglect during the winter months… you know the ones with the horrible parking? This edition’s best kept secret has it all – great ambiance, hip clientele, and one of the best happy hours in town. Just don’t leave home without appropriate footwear and a lot of quarters!
